Our Beliefs

OK, let’s get one thing straight right here at the beginning. We don’t believe that cats are actually gods, in the sense that they created the sun, the earth, and humans and so on. But we do know that cats are divine, in the sense that they are embued with spirit and souls, and that they can act as gurus, prophets, and spirit guides. They help humans with our dreams, and are able to give us the gift of unconditional love as a demonstration of the happiness and contentment we can all have. And some cats are so wise, so powerful, and so special that we do think of them as gods or goddesses. Or, at the very least, teachers and prophets.

Cats are perfect.
God is perfect.
Therefore, cats are gods.

The Goddess Bast
We believe that Bast represents the height of perfection among both gods and cats, who themselves are perfect. Therefore Bast is the quintessence of cats, and unique among divine beings.

Salvation
We believe that nobody is born with a sinful nature and that there is nothing necessary to redeem anyone from the power of sin.

The Sacred Scripture
We believe in the scripture as the inspired Word of Bast and that it is the complete revelation of Her will for humans and cats alike.

Stewardship
We believe that adherents to The Order of the Divine Feline should give comfort and shelter to as many cats as they feel emotionally and financially comfortable with. We believe that everyone should be the steward of their cats’ lives and happiness.

Evangelism
We believe that evangelism is the obligation of every follower of Bast. The Great Cat commands us to go out and make disciples of all the earth. We believe that each person is first responsible for evangelism in their own family, as the cat voices speak to them.

Water Baptism
We believe that water baptism by immersion is not acceptable to cats (except Bengals and Turkish Vans).

Believers
We believe that every believer has a unique relationship to Bast and to cats in general.

Join Us

We’re not a cult. You don’t have to give up your “real” religion, friends, or dogs to follow The Order of the Divine Feline. The most important thing is to honor your cats, their nature, and their unique gifts. And it’s never a bad idea to bring them special food offerings, either.
